A Day With Yayah is a picture book for primary and junior level children which follows an extended family on an outing to pick mushrooms in the family's traditional territory of the Nicola Valley, British Columbia. Grandmother (Yayeh) guides her grandchildren as they identify edible and healing plants and foods. The children also identify harmful plants. The author Nicola Campbell includes Thompson River Salish N??e??kepmxcín words and a pronunciation guide to emphasis the wisdom and knowledge held within the Elders' language. With the unique art style of Julie Flett, this is an accessible picture book brings the strength of Indigenous traditional knowledge and the teachings of the Elders to present day readers from all backgrounds. This title is shortlisted for 2018 BC Book Prize. A Day with Yayeh has been selected in the Children’s Category Longlist for First Nation Communities READ 2018.
