Description

Warren Whistles at the Sky is one of the titles from the Under a Blanket of Stars: First Nations Constellations published by Manitoba First Nations Education Resource Centre in 2016. Written by David A. Robertson with illustrations drawn by Amber Green this 24 page picture book explores the meaning behind an Elder's story about the night sky. Recalling the story the Elder told, Warren goes outdoors at night and sees the sky full of stars. The Elder had said that if you whistle at the stars the spirits would come down from their home in the sky. Warren decides to check out this idea by whistling and waiting to see what happens. Warren learns about the true meaning behind this legend. Designed to appeal to primary level readers this picture book is not First Nation specific and will engage all young students. Recommended.
