Story Circle Two: George's Hunting Trip and Other Stories is a primary level reader developed for the Circle Program, an integrated ESL language arts program for Native students. The text contains four stories with illustrations by First Nations artists. The stories are adapted from original texts and rewritten specifically for First Nations students. The stories include Basil Johnston's adaptation of an Ojibwe legend about the origin of spiders; a contemporary story about two young boys accompanying their father on a moose hunt; a story, The Windigo Swing, about winter transportation in Northern Canada; and an adaptation of an Uncle Remus fable about Brer Rabbit, Brer Fox and Tar Baby. Noted Cree artist Shirley Cheechoo illustrates the story, How Spiders Came To Be. This collection shows Native people in positive situations and draws on the humour and values of traditional teachings. A Listen and Read book suggested for grade 3 ESL students.
