Aboriginal Canadian Communities: Huron-Wendat Community is one of the titles in the Beech Street Books series, Aboriginal Canadian Communities developed for elementary social studies students in grades two to five. Each title consists of four chapters and covers each nation’s historic and current lands, daily and family life, spirituality and celebrations, and tools and technologies. The Huron Wendat Nation was called Huron by the early French visitors to Turtle Island and they called themselves Wendat meaning peninsula people. The Huron-Wendat lived along the St. Lawrence River from Lake Huron to Lake Ontario. Currently they reside at Anderdon and Wendake located near Quebec City. This Nation created complex societies organized around the seasonal round of activities. The text uses colour images and simple content that introduces primary and junior level students to the family, cultural traditions, and daily life of these remarkable people. The book contains Colour Photographs, Black & White Photographs, Table of Contents, Glossary, For Further Information, Maps, Inquiry Questions, and Web Site references. Content consultant was Dr. Kathryn Labelle, associate professor of Aboriginal History, University of Saskatchewan. Guided Reading Level: Q.
