Keeping Baby Close: Making of a Moss Bag by Dakota Elder Doris Pratt is published by the Manitoba First Nations Education Resource Centre in 2018.  This two-part book explores the features and purpose of moss bags and includes step-by-step instructions for making a moss bag, accompanied by explanatory photos. Elementary level students will find useful information about the traditional lifestyle of the Plains Nations especially the Dakota. Ideal for keeping young infants safe and comfortable while mother is working the moss bag is carried in parents’ arms, worn on mother’s back during travel, propped up on the ground like a baby chair or secured to a sled for longer journeys  more about moss bags, The book celebrates the unique creation of early mothers and grandmothers living close to Mother Earth. Part two of this book includes full-colour photographs accompanying the detailed instructions for making this important contribution to infant carriers. Elder Doris Pratt specializes in the Dakota language, and has been an advocate for its continuing use and revitalization. She is currently an Educational Elder Advisor for Sioux Valley Education, and has been involved in educational administration for three decades. Her mainstream education consists of a Master of Education from Brandon University, along with an Educational Specialist Degree from the University of Arizona. Her traditional education comprise of teachings from her family and community knowledge carriers. Highly recommended.
