Description

Byron Through the Seasons: A Dene-English Story Book by the Children of La Loche and Friends was produced by the students and teachers of Ducharme Elementary School, La Loche, Saskatchewan. The students and their advisors wrote the story, translated it and drew the pictures. They wanted to explain Dene culture and its importance today. Byron's grandfather, Jonas, tells this story for young readers. He explains what Dene life is like during the four seasons of the year. The text is written in English and Dene. Four pages of supplementary information describe how people make a living, food, feasts, medicine, houses and camping. This is an excellent book that introduces young readers to the First Nations of the north.
