The Legacy: Tradition and Innovation in Northwest Coast Indian Art is a reissued art exhibition catalogue of outstanding Northwest Coast Art organized in 1971. The original catalogue of this comprehensive exhibition is reissued with minor corrections regarding names of First Nations in British Columbia and artists' biographies. Otherwise as the introduction notes this book would take many years to properly revise and the publishers felt that it was such an important contribution to Northwest Coast contemporary and historical artists that it must be reissued. The works of 40 First Nations artists from British Columbia are showcased. The catalogue is organized according to media and includes chapters on two-dimensional design, sculpture, as well as art and artists in a changing society, and the art today. The artists participating in the show are listed with biographical sketches in an appendix. A recent map of the First Nations of British Columbia is included with their preferred proper names. Artists include Doug Cranmer, Dempsey Bob, Florence Davidson, Robert Davidson, Freda Diesing, Charles Edenshaw, Calvin Hunt, Henry Hunt, Mungo Martin, Bill Reid, Willie Seaweed, Jessie Webster, and Don Yeomans among others.
