Description
Joy of Apex is an exciting chapter book aimed at readers in grade 4 to 7 and is the first-person narrative of Joy, a ten-year-old girl, who lives in a suburb of Iqaluit. Joy's day-to-day routine of school, friends, and family is changed by the underlying turmoil of her parent's marriage. Joy's younger sister, Allusha, and her brother Alex all have their own personalities. Dad works from home and is doing a lot of the family's chores, while Mom is spending more time away visiting her sisters in Iqaluit. The children cope by seeking comfort with each other and Joy's sense of humour makes the parents' arguments less painful. Readers are introduced to family life in a mixed family living in present day Iqaluit. Napatsi Folger was born and grew up in Iqaluit, Nunavut and lived there until her family moved to Vancouver in 1991.
