Description

The World of Tivi Etok: The Life and Art of An Inuit Elder is a trilingual (English, French, and Inuktitut syllabics) edition copublished by Avataq Cultural Institute and Editions MultiMondes. The book explores the first-person narrative of Elder Tivi Etok, who was born in 1929 at a camp in Qirnituartug along Ungava Bay. He became a noted printmaker using woodcuts in the 1970s. This book includes his art, photographs of his homeland, and his personal narrative. The book is organized into two sections that explain his life story and his art; and the second part includes stories from his life. He talks about becoming a hunter, his marriage, the devastation brought by alcohol, his dog-team, spiritual experiences, and printmaking. The book includes a map of the northern Quebec and Labrador region where the author lives.
