UNAVAILABLE This title is no longer available from the publisher Read-A-Long in Syllabics Kit was developed by the Ojibway and Cree Cultural Centre, Timmins, Ontario to improve the syllabics reading skills of fluent speakers of the Cree language. The 26-page guide and accompanying 90-minute audiocassette provide an opportunity for fluent speakers to practice and enhance their syllabics reading skills. The guide presents the directions in English and the text examples in Cree syllabics. Bertha Metat clearly reads the directions and examples entirely in Cree. The objective of the Kit is to stimulate and motivate Cree speakers to improve their literacy by developing their knowledge of spelling patterns and word formation with several forms of text. By following the verbal directions from the audiocassette, the reader gains experience with simple phrases and sentences, and progresses on to longer texts. Nine short legends are included in written and spoken formats. The stories deal with the exploits of Wesakejak and Chakapaysh. Recommended for fluent speakers with some familiarity with syllabics.
