Ohkwa:ri Akoksa:ta - The Bear's Child
Ohkwa:ri Akoksa:ta - The Bear's Child is a bilingual Mohawk and English language resource adapted by Tewateronhiakwa Mina Beauvais for use by elementary students at Kanehsatake, Quebec. This illustrated story tells how a young boy is left in the woods by his uncle and is cared for by a bear family. The story teaches the values of caring and respect. It also stresses that people should admit when they have done wrong as the uncle did when he returned to search the woods for his nephew. The uncle was successful and he returned his nephew to his family.
