In Distorted Descent: White Claims of Indigenous Identity, Darryl Leroux explores the specifics of a social phenomena - a shifting of identity - where otherwise white, French descendants in Canada identity as Indigenous based on their Indigenous ancestors born between 300 and 375 years ago and representing about 200 000 people.
Settler City Limits: Indigenous Resurgence and Colonial Violence in the Urban Prairie West is edited by Heather Dorries, Robert Henry, David Hugill, Tyler McCreary, and Julie Tomiak, some of whom have ancestral connections to Indigenous communities and others descendent from settlers. In Settler City Limits they discuss anti-Indigenous public policy, how the relationship to territory is shaped by political forces, and how Indigeneity and settler colonialism is interpreted in urban studies.

The 69 poems are addressed to Shawn Atleo, Pierre Berton, Steve Wojeck, Margaret Atwood, Sarah Polley, K.D. Lang, Robertson Davies, and Don Cherry, among others, making these poems personal, conversational, approachable and capturing voice.

Assembling Unity, Indigenous Politics, Gender, and the Union of British Columbia Indian Chiefs (UBCIC) by Sarah Nickel begins with the establishment of the UBCIC in 1969 at Tk’emlups te Secwepemc at the Kamloops Indian residential school with the assembly of 150 delegates. This was the first meeting of 200 First Nations bands in what is now British Columbia. UBCIC was therefore a pan-Indigenous political organization in united support against the White Paper introduced the same year by Pierre Trudeau, proposing to abolish the Indian Act, terminate treaties, and eliminate special status.

Acknowledging what has been lost and what can still be gained or recovered in traditional learning, Louttit’s adds that young people will be champions of this new learning – oral traditions of storytelling in the midst of new media but what is taken from it will challenge how well we are grounded in what we value and believe.
In Men, Masculinity and the Indian Act, Martin Cannon, Onyota’a:ka (Oneida Nation) Turtle Clan, is about the inter-relationship between sexism and racialization. This book focuses on the impact of the Indian Act on the divisibility of Indigenous women into either/or ‘women’ or ‘Indians’. It also focuses on the collectivity of “Indians” in this Act, which affects men, women, two-spirit, transgendered or gay people.
Lost Harvests: Prairie Indian Reserve Farmers and Government Policy, 2nd edition by Sarah Carter now includes a new introduction and is based on the original 1990 edition of this book and with the same name. Lost Harvests is about the history of the Plains Nations west of the Red River settlement and farming the prairies in the 19th century. This work is unique because in general the author states that First Nations were excluded from the history of farming and discussions on their capability to farm.
Indigenous Nationals, Canadian Citizens: From First Contact to Canada 150 and Beyond by Thomas J. Courchene and published by the Institute of Intergovernmental Relations (Queen’s University), is a view forward favouring regional and culturally focused institutions, rather than nationally focused strategies.
