Description
Unique travelogue of Native People of California through photography, traditional stories and legends, biographical sketches of Elders, and descriptions of traditional culture. The people of the Sierra Nevada foothills include the Maidu, Konkow, Nisenan, Miwuk, and Chukchansi. These Nations survived the California Gold Rush and this book began as a response to the Sesquicentennial of the California Gold Discovery. In an effort to document through archival and contemporary images, maps, and traditional stories and legends, the author and photographer travelled with Native People of California to their sacred sites and learned about the people's continuing relationship to the land, their histories, and their unique legacy to this region of California and Nevada.
