Edward Benton-Banai (1931-2020) was a Wisconsin Ojibway of the Fish Clan and a spiritual teacher of the Lac Court Oreilles Band of the Ojibway Tribe. One of the original founders of the American Indian Movement, he was also the founder and executive director of the Red School House in St. Paul, Minnesota. In 1979, Benton-Banai wrote The Mishomis Book (drawn from the Teachings of the Seven Grandfathers), which chronicles Anishinaabe way of life and the Seven Fires Prophecy.
