Description

Diane Wilson is enrolled on the Sicangu Oyate (Rosebud) reservation in South Dakota, and is a Mdewakanton descendent. She lives near the St. Croix River in Minnesota, where she cares for an Indigenous seed garden, native perennials for pollinators, and a Tamarack bog. Tashia Hart is a writer and artist from the Red Lake Nation of Anishinnabe in northern Minnesota.

Growing up, Ella Cara Deloria loved listening to her family tell stories in the Dakota language. As an adult, she recorded many Native American peoples' stories and languages and shared them with everyone. She helped protect her peoples' language for future generations. From recording stories to writing stories of her own, learn all about the life of Deloria. This title was published in partnership with the Minnesota Humanities Center. Back matter expands on main text and encourages further learning.

Audience: Ages 9-14.
