Helen Knott is of Dane Zaa, Nehiyaw, Metis, and Euro descent from Prophet River First Nations, living in Northeastern B.C.. Helen is the author of the national best seller, In My Own Moccasins, and her most recent book released in August 2023, Becoming a Matriarch, has been on the best seller list in the Globe & Mail and Toronto Star.

Helen has a Bachelors degree in social work and has held a range of positions that focused on Indigenous wellness, advocacy, and education. She was the Director of Indigenous Education at the Northern Lights College. Prior to that she worked as a provincial team lead for coordinating services provided to families impacted by MMWIG2S in BC through the Indian Residential School Survivor Society. She currently sits on various advisory committees and boards.

In addition to literary work, Helen has academic related work published in, Keetsahnak / Our Missing and Murdered Indigenous Sisters, and, Determinants of Indigenous Peoples’ Health – Second Edition.
