Description

Turtle's Back Publishing is a division of the Ontario Native Literacy Coalition. Turtle's Back Publishing has Language Resources, Language Readers, Cultural Readers, and Curriculum Resources.

The Exploring the Structure of Literacy with Indigenous Literature- Course 1, was developed by the Ontario Native Literacy Coalition (ONLC), the support organization for the Indigenous Adult Literacy Stream. It recognizes and utilizes literary works written by Indigenous peoples. Joyce Jonathan Crone created this two-part course based on the Ontario Ministry of Education’s English: Understanding Contemporary First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Voices, Grade 11 College Preparation (NBE3C). Learners participating and completing the activities in the two-part course could acquire a grade 11 English credit.

Each part has 10 lessons that contain fascinating Indigenous content, literary stories, articles, and much more. While this was created for the Indigenous Stream, it is an excellent resource during a time of Truth & Reconciliation. It provides learners the opportunity to better understand an Indigenous mindset through literature.
