Description
The author and illustrator is Sam Zimmerman.
What began with a trip to Alaska and an epiphany at Mendenhall Glacier resulted in the artist returning home to family and his Ojibwe culture, a journey captured in paintings and stories.
Sam Zimmerman's work explores his Ojibwe heritage primarily preserving shared oral histories, reimagining the symbolism of the clan animals while incorporating the natural landscape of Lake Superior's North Shore. His work is infused with the colour theories of the abstract and expressionism movements and is currently in private collections both in the United States and abroad. Sam focuses on continuing the Anishinaabe tradition of storytelling while also focusing on the theme of environmental stewardship of the North Shore through his studio and public art commissions.
