Description

Kidwenan: An Ojibwe Language Book is the work of Ojibwe language teacher, Isadore Toulouse. A CD accompanies the 78-page spiral bound book. The author, a fluent speaker originally from Wikwemikong on Manitoulin Island, is a graduate from Lakehead University's Native Language Instructors Program. The text is organized into 17 chapters that contain standard lists of vocabulary and short sentences. Topics include greetings, where are you going, places, table gestures, food, action verbs, feelings, family, numbers, days, months, weather, seasons, and locatives. The words and phrases reflect contemporary lifestyles and include references such as the bank, band office, restaurant, and day care centre. The many dialects of the Ojibwe language are acknowledged through the use of brackets in the text only; the variations are not pronounced on the audiocassette. The text contains conversational style words and phrases in Ojibwe with the English meaning. On the CD, only the Ojibwe words and phrases are provided.  This package is suitable for students with some familiarity with the Ojibwe language who want to improve conversational and literacy skills.
