I Tell You Now: Autobiographical Essays by Native American Writers was first published in 1987 and is reprinted here as a new edition with biographical notes and an updated introduction. Each of the eighteen writers comes from various age groups and Nations. Many essays include poems to make their points about the writer's life and literary influences. The writers include Mary Tall Mountain, Ralph Salisbury, Maurice Kenny, Elizabeth Cook-Lynn, Carter Revard, Jim Barnes, Gerald Vizenor, Jack Forbes, Duane Niatum, Paula Gunn Allen, Jimmie Durham, Diane Glancy, Simon Ortiz, Joseph Bruchac, Barney Bush, Linda Hogan, Wendy Rose, and Joy Harjo. These essays offer revealing insights into the literary careers of notable Native American authors. This book is on the list of recommended Aboriginal titles developed by staff of the (SOLS) Southern Ontario Library Service and the Ontario Library Service North for the Aboriginal Library Book Investment by the Ontario Ministry of Culture into the Ontario Public Libraries.
