Dream Wheels: A Novel by Ojibwe author Richard Wagamese received the Canadian Author's Association Award for Fiction for 2007. As well Wagamese was shortlisted for The Evergreen Award from the Ontario Library Association. This engaging novel brings together the shattered lives of a First Nations rodeo competitor, a mixed-race youth recently released from prison, the youth's battered mother, and the loving First Nations family of the disabled rodeo star. Wagamese writes with clarity and respect about the life of this First Nations ranching family in his novel. It is strong family relationships that allow healing to occur when the individual's awareness has been awakened so he can make the necessary choices.
