Nobody Cries at Bingo is a first novel by Plains Cree comedian and playwright Dawn Dumont. Part memoir and part novel, Dawn Dumont takes readers on a tour of her life growing up on the Okanese First Nation in Saskatchewan. Told chronologically the story of Dawn's early years at home and school emerge as a time of close relationships among her family and friends. As she attends school, Dawn's days of the riding the school bus are filled with humour and trepidation. The common stereotypes of reserve life, rez dogs, and bingo are shattered in this humour-filled anecdotal format. Dawn finally graduates from law school, and the storyline takes readers along for the ride sharing her joys and sorrows as well as her wit, humour, and love of reading. For anyone looking for a story that demonstrates what life is like on a contemporary rez, this book has the answers. Some readers may object to the mature themes and language but Dawn Dumont remains true to her intentions of telling her story. Highly recommended.  First Nation Communities Read 2013-2014 Short List
