Description

Le Petit Orphelin et L'Ours Polaire is the French edition of Inhabit Media's picture book, The Orphan and the Polar Bear. This 32-page picture book is written by Inuk storyteller Sakiasi Qaunaq and illustrated by Eva Widermann. In the world of Inuit traditional stories, animals and humans are not such different creatures. Animals can speak to, understand, and form relationships with humans. In The Orphan and the Polar Bear an orphaned boy who is abandoned on the sea ice by a group of cruel hunters is discovered and adopted by a polar bear elder. While living in the polar bear's village, the orphan learns many lessons about survival, but most importantly, he learns something about himself and his own place in the world. This traditional story is retold for contemporary audiences by Inuk elder Sakiasi Qaunaq. The colour, digital art created by Eva Widermann captures the details of the Arctic environment as well as the diversity of the people of this northern territory. She has clearly made every effort to work closely with the traditional storytellers making this picture book a welcome addition to all French collections.
